Sasol: Sasol Joins Aireg Initiative For Production And Use Of Sustainable Aviation Fuels

149

Global chemicals and energy company Sasol has joined aireg, the Aviation Initiative for Renewable Energy in Germany. Sasol just recently launched its new business unit Sasol ecoFT. The company has been bundling over 70 years of experience with the Fischer-Tropsch process for producing synthetic fuels and is offering a key building block for more sustainable aviation. E-fuels are made, for example, from carbon dioxide and hydrogen using renewable energy and thus have the potential to contribute to decarbonizing aviation.

Sasol intends to not only leverage its leading Fischer-Tropsch technology position to other members of the initiative, but also to companies across the value chain to help them achieve their decarbonization targets.

Melanie Form, member of the aireg board and managing director, says about the membership: “We are extremely pleased to welcome Sasol as a new member of aireg. Sasol has proven expertise with the Fischer-Tropsch process, a process for the production of synthetic fuels, and thus extends our competence along the entire value chain of sustainable aviation fuels. Together with our members, we look forward to continue promoting the de-fossilization of the aviation industry.”

Dr. Helge Sachs, Senior Vice President Sasol ecoFT, says about the new membership: “Sasol is proud to join forces with aireg to open the next chapter of sustainable aviation with affordable and accredited sustainable aviation fuels at large industrial scale. We are committed to be an active member throughout this journey and leverage our cutting-edge Fischer-Tropsch technology. Our new business unit Sasol ecoFT gives us the means to fulfill Sasol’s purpose of innovating for a better world.”
