CEPSA: CEPSA JOINS SPANISH HYDROGEN ASSOCIATION TO PROMOTE DECARBONIZATION AND ENERGY INDEPENDENCE

113

Cepsa joins the Spanish Hydrogen Association (AeH2). The objective of both entities is to encourage the commitment to green hydrogen, an indispensable energy source for the global energy transition and European energy independence. Specifically, Cepsa joins the association as a promoter partner to promote innovation activities and development of technologies that accelerate the process of green hydrogen generation.

“Our goal is to transform ourselves to reduce Scope 1 and 2 CO2 emissions from our business by 55% by the end of this decade, while facilitating the decarbonization of our customers and the industry around us. Green hydrogen is the key to achieving this. For this reason, we are partnering with AeH2, with the hope of building synergies and jointly promoting the development of technologies that will accelerate the implementation of this energy, in which Cepsa will be a leader by 2030”.

On the other hand, the Spanish Hydrogen Association, a non-profit organization, increases with Cepsa its number of members and strengthens its position as a benchmark association in the sector both nationally and internationally. According to Javier Brey, president of AeH2, “It is great news that a major company like Cepsa has joined AeH2’s list of members. More and more, hydrogen technologies are positioning themselves as a key element in the move towards energy transition and decarbonization of the Spanish economy. In this sense, this collaboration agreement demonstrates Cepsa’s strong commitment to hydrogen technologies and their potential to achieve the climate goals set by the United Nations.”

Next week, Cepsa will actively participate in the European Hydrogen Energy Conference (EHEC), promoted by AeH2, to be held in Madrid on May 18, 19 and 20. The company will present its commitment to this energy during this forum, considered the main meeting of companies in the sector at European level, which will bring together 400 experts from more than 40 countries in the capital.

Hydrogen leadership

Cepsa is one of the main Spanish hydrogen producers and, within its Strategy 2030, ‘Positive Motion’, the company aims to lead the production of green hydrogen in Spain and Portugal by the end of this decade, with an equivalent production capacity of 2 GW and to be the gateway to Europe. In this way, it will become a benchmark for this energy source on the European continent, thanks to the privileged location of its facilities on the Iberian Peninsula.

Also, Cepsa will promote the demand for green hydrogen in road transport, for which it has set the target for 2030 of establishing a refueling station every 300 kilometers in the corridors connecting Spain with Europe.
