89

Shapoorji Pallonji Energy Private Limited (SP Energy) received a FEED-level Approval-in-Principle (AIP) from ABS (American Bureau of Shipping) for its FPSO newbuild hull design, ‘Sterling Streamline’, at OTC Houston 2024. Mr. Ravi Shankar Srinivasan, CEO of SP Energy, described Sterling Streamline as “A next-generation, standardized hull tailored to client needs, emphasizing sustainability, adaptability and reliability.”

During the event, Mr. Srinivasan highlighted the 158-year-old rich engineering legacy of Shapoorji Pallonji acknowledging the significant support provided by the group towards the development of the Sterling Streamline. He particularly emphasized the depth of talent within Shapoorji Pallonji, highlighting its impressive team of 10,000 engineers.

Shapoorji Pallonji Energy’s in-house design and engineering team has meticulously designed the hull of Sterling Streamline, leveraging the collective expertise of Shapoorji Pallonji in offshore, marine, and engineering domains. With a keen focus on integrating decades of offshore engineering and operations know-how, this new build represents a testament to SP Energy’s commitment to innovation and excellence in the FPSO industry.

Sterling Streamline marks a significant advancement in FPSO hull design, seamlessly integrating size, customizability, sustainability, and operational longevity. Intended for a service lifespan of approximately 33 years, this innovative design features a topsides capacity of up to 65,000 MT of wet weight. The FPSO model features 60 risers and umbilical slots riser balcony, with processing capabilities including oil processing of up to 250,000 barrels per day, gas production of up to 550 MMSCFD, water injection capacity of 350,000 BLPD, and a storage capacity of 2.2 million barrels of crude oil.

The standardised hull design features smart plug-and-play topsides configuration to suit varied field requirements and is best suited for deepwater projects catering to geographies such as Brazil, Guyana, Suriname and West Africa. The plug and play approach allows SP Energy to provide off-the-shelf solution with options for CCGT, additional helideck and gas reinjection modules ensuring that an optimised solution is readily available for the client’s specific requirements.

Underlining SP Energy’s commitment to environmental stewardship, the Sterling Streamline approach is all-electric. The green solutions provided in the FPSO hull could help reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by up to 50%. These efforts align with the global sustainability goals of the Shapoorji Pallonji Group, showcasing a steadfast commitment to responsible environmental practices.

Since July 2023, SP Energy has dedicated efforts to refine the Sterling Streamline concept, securing the Concept AIP from ABS in October 2023. With the recent FEED-level AIP, SP Energy is now working towards integrating project specific needs in the design. Additionally, strategic partnerships with leading construction shipyards are being pursued for the construction of the hull.
