MPC employees volunteer across Hancock County for 2021 Days of Caring

For nearly three decades, the United Way of Hancock County has teamed up with Marathon Petroleum for a week focused on community service, typically held in the spring, called Days of Caring. The event brings individuals and employees from area companies and small businesses together to lend a hand to local organizations.

This year, close to 400 MPC employees volunteered at 50 different events across Hancock County, Ohio, benefiting more than a dozen non-profits.

“Marathon has a long tradition of investing in our communities and we’re always looking for opportunities to create shared value,” said Ashley Goecke, Community Investment Specialist, Marathon Petroleum Corporation. “While our employees have consistently participated in Days of Caring year over year, they were particularly eager to get out and help volunteer this spring to support nonprofit organizations who are ramping up programs and services for the community, after the limiting restrictions and impact COVID-19 had on many of their operations in 2020.”

Agencies in need of assistance submit projects annually to which the United Way matches up registered volunteer teams to help. Volunteers complete a variety of projects from landscaping, organizing, painting and cleaning to building a house for Habitat for Humanity.

“United Way and our partners are incredibly grateful for the impact Marathon employees continue to make through volunteerism,” said Angela DeBoskey, CEO, United Way of Hancock County. “2021’s Days of Caring event successfully completed 89 projects that brought over $60,000 of capacity to our local nonprofits. Your enthusiasm, advocacy and service admirably lead the way in our community.”

Last year, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Days of Caring was postponed from May until September. United Way announced this spring they will be holding a second Days of Caring event in the fall.
