Indonesia Energy Ministry: Maximizing Gas for Domestic, Director General of Oil and Gas Inaugurates SPBG Kaligawe

Semarang, Increasing the use of natural gas for domestic as well as encouraging the energy transition, continues to be carried out by the Government. One of its manifestations is through a diversification program in the use of fuel to gas in the transportation sector, namely the construction of the Kaligawe Gas Filling Station (SPBG), Semarang, Central Java, which was inaugurated by the Director General of Oil and Gas Tutuka Ariadji, Friday (20/8).

This SPBG with a capacity of 1 MMSCFD or equivalent to 30,000 liters of premium per day (LSP) is an Online Station SPBG which was built using APBN funds from the Directorate General of Oil and Gas, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources for Fiscal Year 2015 which was then submitted to PT Pertamina (Persero) through the participation mechanism. This year the Kaligawe SPBG has been connected to a gas source from the Gresik-Semarang gas pipeline so that it is ready to be operated by Pertamina through one of its subsidiaries, Subholding Gas PT PGN Tbk.

“National natural gas production is large enough that it must be utilized optimally for domestic use and to create community welfare throughout Indonesia,” said Director General of Oil and Gas Tutuka Ariadji who was accompanied by the Semarang City Secretary Iswar Aminuddin, Head of SKK Migas Dwi Soetjipto (available online) Director of Oil and Gas Infrastructure Planning and Development Noor Arifin Muhammad, Director of Strategy, Portfolio and Business Development (SPPU) Pertamina Iman Rachman, and President Director of PT PGN Tbk, M. With the operation of the Kaligawe SPBG, it is hoped that it can encourage people to use environmentally friendly CNG-fueled vehicles, and can serve the needs of CNG fuel for vehicles, especially in the Semarang City area. This includes the Trans Semarang bus rapid transit (BRT).

“With the conversion of BBM to BBG, lower vehicle emissions will be obtained so that they are more environmentally friendly. The operation of the Kaligawe SPBG can encourage the people of Semarang to use environmentally friendly and economical CNG. For that, hopefully Pertamina Group can realize its plan to expand the use of the Kaligawe SPBG in a sustainable manner, ” said Tutu.

Director of Oil and Gas Infrastructure Planning and Development Noor Arifin Muhammad added, the Government with APBN funds, from 2011 to 2016 has built 46 SPBG units spread across several regencies and cities in Indonesia, namely Palembang City, Prabumulih, DKI Jakarta, Bogor, Bekasi, South Tengerang, Depok, Cilegon, Merak, Serang, Subang Regency, Purwakarta, Cirebon, Indramayu, Semarang, Gresik, Sidoarjo, Surabaya and Balikpapan. So far, 17 units of SPBG have been operating.

Specifically in Semarang City, there are 3 SPBG units that have been built, namely SPBG Kaligawe which is an SPBG Online Station which is connected to the Subholding Gas distribution pipeline and for operations it will use gas from WK Kangean and WK Muria.

Another SPBG is SPBG Mangkang which is a Mother Station SPBG which was built with the 2014 APBN, but until now it has not been connected to a gas source so that it cannot be operated. “Finally, SPBG Penggaron is a SPBG Daughter Station that receives gas supply from SPBG Mangkang so that it can be operated as soon as SPBG Mangkang is operational,” said Arifin.

Furthermore, Arifin said that at this time the Kaligawe SPBG would supply the fuel needs of the Trans Semarang buses. The Semarang City Government also plans to use CNG for garbage trucks when the Semarang SPBG operates.

The savings in the use of CNG can reach around 13% with the assumption that the need for diesel for one bus unit is around 50 liters per day at a price of Rp. 5,150 per liter. If you use BBG the cost per lsp is IDR 4,500.

On the same occasion, Pertamina SPPU Director Iman Rachman explained that the average gas consumption for 200 Trans Semarang buses is around 8,400 lsp. From the utilization of the Kaligawe SPBG with a capacity of 30,000 lsp, there are still around 21,600 lsp that can be used for 500-600 other vehicles.

“It is hoped that the Kaligawe SPBG will become one of the supply points for the provision of gas fuel in the Central Java region and in the end can encourage the overall gas business in the region. Later this facility can also be optimized for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) services for the commercial sector as one efforts to substitute LPG in stages,” said Iman.

PGN President Director, Haryo Yunianto added, PGN as Pertamina’s Gas Subholding will add gas fuel supply points, especially in the transportation sector elsewhere, so that it can further facilitate public access.

“The location of the Kaligawe SPBG is quite strategic near the national road. So it is necessary to carry out a more detailed survey, especially capturing the potential demand for transportation outside the Trans Semarang bus, such as city transportation that passes Jalan Raya Kaligawe,” said Haryo.

With the operation of the Kaligawe SPBG, it means increasing the number of CNG supply outlets in the conversion program in the transportation sector managed by the Pertamina Group. In the future, there will be an increase in the utilization of the Kaligawe SPBG in order to serve customers in the household sector and retail industry in the Semarang and surrounding areas.
