Today, during a meeting with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm and Ukraine’s Minister of Energy Herman Galushchenko signed a Joint Statement of Intent to advance energy and climate cooperation through the U.S.-Ukraine Strategic Energy and Climate Dialogue. This dialogue launches a cooperative platform with an emphasis on accelerating Ukraine’s energy transition and EU integration while protecting Ukraine’s energy security.

“Today we mark an important step forward in the U.S. government and the Department of Energy’s support for Ukraine’s energy needs,” said Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm. “With this Joint Statement we are solidifying our mutual interest in fighting the climate crisis, creating new opportunities for rapid decarbonization cooperation with a key European ally, and helping Ukraine strengthen its energy security and leadership in the region.”

The signing of the Joint Statement was part of a visit by President Zelenskyy to Washington, DC for meetings with President Biden at the White House. It follows Secretary Granholm’s August 21-23, 2021 visit to Ukraine to participate in the multilateral Crimea Platform and to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence from the former Soviet Union.
