A patent analytics report on the Australian Battery Industry

Batteries are a technology underpinning Australia’s national energy infrastructure and resilience. A new report from IP Australia analyses patent filings between 2001 and 2018 and identifies innovators working in different fields of battery development.

The report finds that with 206 patent families filed by Australians in battery technologies, this is a strong area of growth and specialisation. CSIRO is the top patent filer in the area, with universities strongly contributing. Australia has the potential for significant international impact through developing and commercialising our world-leading research contribution in this field.

IP Australia concludes that this is a sector to promote Australian capability in the context of intense global interest.
