The Commission has welcomed the progress made by EU Energy Ministers at the 11 June Transport, Telecommunications and Energy (TTE) Council meeting in Luxembourg.
Ministers agreed on a general approach on the Commission’s proposals to revise the Regulation on the Trans-European Energy Network (TEN-E), which is an important step in the legislative process. Once the European Parliament has finalised its position on the proposals, likely in early autumn, the 3 EU institutions can move to trilogues with a view to finalising the new regulation.
Ministers also agreed conclusions on the renovation wave strategy and held a discussion on the hydrogen strategy– 2 of the European Green Deal initiatives published last year.
Speaking after the Council, EU Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson said:
“The TEN-E proposal that the Commission put forward half a year ago was clear on fossil fuels: oil and natural gas projects would no longer be supported under TEN-E. With a general approach the process can now continue, and we have a hope to conclude by the end of the 2021 under the Slovenian Presidency.”
