European Commission: EU Sustainable Energy Week: Setting Europe on the path to 2030

The 16th edition of EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) will take place next week under the theme ‘Towards 2030: Reshaping the European energy system’. As last year, EUSEW will be a primarily virtual event centred around a 4-day policy conference with more than 30 different sessions. Guest speakers in the course of the week include the UN’s Achim Steiner and the climatologist Jean-Pascal van Ypersele. In addition to these there will be 40 “energy talks” and an online networking village. Thursday is designated European Youth Energy Day. There are also more than 100 related events taking place around the EU in the course of September and October.

The main aim of EUSEW is to bring together public authorities, private companies, NGOs and consumers to promote initiatives to save energy and move towards renewables for clean, secure and efficient power. This year’s format allows participants for digital networking and stands. More than 3000 people have already registered for the week.

The programme highlights include:

The opening session of the Policy Conference on 25 October at 11.00, where President Ursula von der Leyen and the European Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, will be joined by Minister Jernej Vrtovec, and other high-level speakers;
The prestigious awards ceremony (Monday 12.00) with 5 different categories of prizes, including the Woman in Energy award and the new Young Energy Trailblazer award, highlights a range of inspiring projects and individuals. (NB Voting closes at 5pm today – 22 October.)
The first European Youth Energy Communication Hackathon, a 2-day event where teams of young people work on developing communication projects to promote consumer engagement with renewable sources of energy and energy efficiency. The winners will be announced during Thursday’s European Youth Energy Day.
The launch of the energy equality platform, a Commission initiative aimed at offering a forum to exchange good practice for diverse and inclusive workplaces (Monday 4pm) ,
A debate of energy ambassadors on the main challenges Europe faces to secure a safe energy future (Monday 2pm)
Special sessions dedicated to the State of the energy union report (Wednesday 4pm) and the 2nd energy competitiveness report (Wednesday 11 am)
But also a variety of topics like green hydrogen, Bauhaus, electromobility, energy poverty, global and local Green Deal, digitalisation, offshore renewable energy, etc
