The Guwahati Municipal Corporation has appointed Vi Business, the enterprise arm of Vodafone Idea, as implementation partner under the Guwahati Smart City initiative. Under this partnership, the GMC will provide Vi Intelligent Mobility solutions to Guwahati Municipal Swatch Bharat workers. The Vi SIMs that can be used with feature phones as well as smart phones, will keep GMC employees connected on Vi network and help GMC ensure safety of field staff as well as enhance efficiency of day to day cleaning operations. The partnership was officially launched in Guwahati on Monday by the Hon. Chief Minister of Assam, Shri Hemanta Biswa Sarma, in the presence of other Government dignitaries and senior officials of Vodafone Idea.
The strategic focus of the Government’s Smart City programme is to improve mobility, improve situational awareness, enhance public safety and security, and introduce data-driven decision making. Improved management of utilities, enhanced safety and security and unified operations through integration of functions are some of the objectives of the Smart City programme. The partnership with Vi is a part of System Integration efforts under the pan city project division of the Guwahati Smart City plan. The Geotagged, Geo-fenced Vi Mobility SIM cards provided to GMC staff will give the Corporation 24×7 window into the city’s field staff operations through real- time Dashboards and alerts. This will ensure better time and resource management, enhance efficiency of operations, ensure security and safety of field staff as well as lead to a better managed, cleaner City for the residents of Guwahati.
