Hive launches new service to improve energy efficiency

Hive Heating Plus provides homes with a personalised energy management solution. With this new intelligent service you can stay in control of how much you spend, keep an eye on how you’re heating your home and receive personal suggestions to stay on budget. It allows you to improve energy efficiency and help reduce your carbon footprint.

It will notify you when your home is using more energy than normal, or taking longer to heat up, alerting you to potential issues with your heating system before they arise and guiding you through simple steps to troubleshoot and make improvements.

For the first time, we’re integrating data from the smart meter, Hive thermostat and information provided about the home, alongside local weather forecasts to produce personalised insights about your heating behaviour. This can assist in reducing your carbon footprint, energy bills and avoid unforeseen surprises. All of this is provided and controlled within the Hive app.

This innovative solution was trialed successfully by over 500 joint Hive and British Gas Energy customers – 75% remained within their target budget, more than two thirds agreed that they felt more in control of their heating spend and 40% used the service daily.

The solution was launched to the market in November and is currently being rolled out in stages to eligible customers. It will be available to the whole market in the new year – even if they do not own a smart meter or are not a British Gas customer.

The service was created to provide a market leading energy efficiency solution. It allows monthly budgets to be set (automatically varied by season) to help you manage how much you spend on your heating. You will receive weekly updates on how you are tracking, nudges to help you stick to budget, and encouragement when you meet your target as savings visibly add up over time.

Hive Heating Plus is available for £3.99pm on a rolling monthly contract basis or it can be purchased as an annual subscription with a two-month discount. Once signed-up customers will also gain access to a series of benefits to help them save even more, this includes 10% off Hive products, free delivery, extended warranty for the Hive range of heating devices and a 10% discount on home repairs booked through Local Heroes.
