Indonesia Energy Ministry: Pandemic Impact, 32 Million PLN Customers Enjoy Electricity Bill Stimulus, Policy Extended
The government has decided to continue to provide electricity sector stimulus to the public and business actors due to the Covid-19 pandemic. More than 32 million customers have received the electricity stimulus until the first semester of this year.
The policy was extended. If previously the Government planned a budget for the third quarter of 2021 at Rp2.43 trillion, now the Government is preparing another Rp2.54 trillion of the budget for the electricity program stimulus in the fourth quarter of 2021. Thus, the planned realization of the electricity stimulus budget in the third and fourth quarters of 2021 reaches Rp4, 97 trillion.
Director General of Electricity, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Rida Mulyana said, the extension of this stimulus is proof of the state’s presence to help people through difficult times like today.
“It is hoped that the public will still be able to wisely consume electricity during Emergency PPKM, such as saving electricity and increasing electricity safety,” said Rida, Monday (19/7).
Rida explained that the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources had instructed PT PLN (Persero) to carry out the stimulus for this electricity program until December 2021.
Meanwhile, PLN’s Director of Commerce and Customer Management Bob Saril hoped that the extension of the electricity stimulus could boost the productivity of the community and business actors, as well as increase people’s purchasing power during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“And we always support by carrying out the Government’s decision to provide electrical stimulus for small communities and business actors affected by Covid-19,” said Bob.
