INL: NEW WEBINAR SERIES KICKS OFF WITH DIGITAL ENGINEERING

77

Digital engineering is a powerful tool that can accelerate the demonstration and improve the economics of advanced nuclear energy projects. It also will be the topic of the first webinar in a National Reactor Innovation Center series “NRIC Tech Talks.”

The 90-minute webinar will run from 3 to 4:30 p.m. MST on Feb. 16. It will feature breakout sessions and a panel discussion.

“Digital engineering uses digital information management systems to design, engineer, build and operate highly complex projects,” said Chris Ritter, digital engineering lead for NRIC. “The approach helps such endeavors run smoothly while avoiding delays and cost overruns that have hampered the success of nuclear projects.”

Ritter will moderate the webinar and panel discussions, which will focus on specific aspects of the digital engineering model.

NRIC, a national Department of Energy program led by INL, supports the demonstration of advanced nuclear reactor technologies by providing collaborators with access to the capabilities and expertise of the U.S. national laboratory complex.

“We are laser focused on demonstrating advanced nuclear energy and developing tools that can support economic deployment,” said Ashley Finan, NRIC director. “Digital engineering is pivotal to meeting both goals.”

The NRIC Tech Talks webinar series provides technology developers with technical briefings and conversations that can assist in their development, demonstration and deployment efforts. This webinar will provide an opportunity to interact with experts in the digital engineering field.
