“This is something our employees look forward to every year,” said Amy Fischer from Marathon Petroleum’s St. Paul Park refinery in Minnesota.
Fischer helps coordinate an annual team-building event in support of Feed My Starving Child (FMSC), a non-profit organization whose mission is to prepare and distribute nutritious meals to hungry children around the world.
“It’s a great way for our employees to build relationships outside of work, while supporting such a wonderful cause in the process,” said Aaron Christy, Engineering Manager at the refinery.
And they make it fun. That was the name of the game during the refinery’s most recent visit to FMSC, pitting the engineering and tech services departments against each other in a friendly competition to see who could pack the most food boxes, which were then distributed throughout Minnesota and to sister organizations around the world.
“Who doesn’t love a little competition, especially when it’s for a good cause,” said Daniel McGraw, Technical Services Manager at the refinery.
Although reports suggest the engineering group may have won, together, the dueling departments packed 90 boxes, the equivalent of just under 20,000 total meals that FMSC estimates will feed 53 children for a full year.
“It’s always an exciting time when businesses such as Marathon make a visit,” said Alyssa Burdett, Site Manager, FMSC Minnesota. “They come full of enthusiasm and always ready to make a real difference in the lives of the children we serve.”
Founded in 1987, FMSC has sent food to children living in 108 countries on five continents.
