METI: Minister Nishimura Holds Meeting with the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, Canada

On September 29 (Thu.), Mr. Nishimura Yasutoshi, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, held a meeting with the Hon. François-Philippe CHAMPAGNE, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry of Canada, who was visiting Japan to attend the state funeral of former Prime Minister Abe.

On September 29, 2022, Minister Nishimura held a meeting with the Hon. François-Philippe CHAMPAGNE, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry of Canada, who was visiting Japan to attend the state funeral of former Prime Minister Abe.

During the meeting, they discussed promoting to strengthen cooperation between Japan and Canada in the fields such as science and technology, digital technology, and energy.

Specifically, Minister Nishimura mentioned strengthening cooperation with Canada in the following areas:

Strengthened cooperation between Japan’s National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) and the National Research Council Canada (NRC)
Cooperation on research and development for quantum technology and AI
Implementation of Data Free Flow with Trust (DFFT) among the G7 countries
Energy transitions and stable supplies of LNG and other energy sources
