On November 8, 2022, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Ministry of Investment of Saudi Arabia jointly held the 6th Saudi-Japan Vision 2030 Ministerial Meeting with the participation of related ministers from Japan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The formulation of the “Saudi-Japan Vision 2030” in 2017 as a new compass for the long-standing strategic partnership between Japan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia encompasses wide-ranging areas for cooperation. The Saudi-Japan Vision 2030 aims to facilitate public and private sector involvement between Saudi Arabia and Japan by aligning and reporting on strategic initiatives that contribute to the objectives of each country’s national growth and development strategies.

This latest ministerial meeting, which took place in Tokyo, is the sixth such meeting held under the framework of Saudi-Japan Vision 2030. Senior representatives from Saudi and Japanese government entities attended the meeting, led by Mr. Nishimura Yasutoshi, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry and Mr. Yamada Kenji, State Minister of Foreign Affairs from the Japanese side, and from the Saudi side, H.E. Eng. Khalid Al-Falih, Minister of Investment of Saudi Arabia, who was visiting Japan.

The Ministers confirmed the progress in cooperation projects in a wide range of areas including infrastructure, energy, digital, culture, and sports. They also confirmed their continuous commitment to the Saudi-Japan Vision 2030 partnership and the importance of revitalizing business exchanges between the two countries.

Minister Nishimura stated that Japan will further increase cooperation in the fields of entertainment and tourism—which are growing rapidly due to social and economic reform in Saudi Arabia—and startups that are interested in entering the Saudi market.

H.E. Eng. Khalid Al-Falih, Minister of Investment of Saudi Arabia, pointed out that Japan has been a long-standing friend of Saudi Arabia, and that they are cooperating in not only the area of oil—in which the two countries have been cooperating since the beginning—but in an increasingly wide range of areas. He also stated that it is important to take full advantage of investment opportunities in the two countries.
