MOEI Gov: MOEI, Microsoft Sign MOU To Enhance Digital Transformation And Innovation System

The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has signed a memorandum of understanding with Microsoft Corporation to step up joint cooperation and coordination between the two parties in enhancing the use of high-tech in the energy, infrastructure and transportation sectors. The MOU also aims to accelerate digital transformation, in addition to providing systems and technical solutions and using smart data science and metaverse technologies in the Federal Roads Control Center systems. In doing so, the Ministry has become the first authority to adopt this technology in traffic systems to ensure the highest traffic flow rates and reduce accidents.

The terms of partnership signed by HE Eng. Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for the Energy and Petroleum Sector, and Mr. Ehab Fouda, Head of Government and Education Sector at Microsoft Middle East and Africa, in the presence of HE Eng. Nadia Musallam Al Naqbi, Assistant Undersecretary for the Support Services Sector, on the sidelines of GITEX 2022, include coordination and communication to benefit from smart data, AI systems, autonomous systems and solutions (including but not limited to self-driving cars), and digital twinning, in addition to supporting the Ministry’s goals towards digital transformation and innovation.



The MOU enhances cooperation in exchanging knowledge, organizing technical workshops and brainstorming sessions, providing innovative solutions to various challenges, and training the Ministry’s employees. It also provides them with the latest technologies, innovations and creative ideas that support the work system and boost productivity and direct the Ministry for the next fifty years pursuant to the UAE’s future orientation.

HE Eng. Sharif Al Olama said: “These partnerships play a significant role in supporting the UAE’s goals in the fields of energy, infrastructure and transport for the coming fifty years, up to the UAE Centennial 2071. They enhance the country’s efforts and goals for digital transformation and support the directives of HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the State, and his brother, HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and their brothers, members of the Supreme Council of the Union, Rulers of the Emirates. They further consolidate the country’s position and its global leadership in energy, infrastructure, transport, digital transformation and innovation technology, as one of the leading countries in environment and natural resources conservation.”

Ehab Fouda, Head of Government and Education Sector at Microsoft Middle East and Africa, also stated: “We are pleased to team up with the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure to assist them in their transformation journey. We are willing to help them achieve their aspirations to have streamlined, more efficient and sustainable operations. I would like to note that despite our deep understanding at Microsoft of the importance of technology to effectively drive digital transformation, we firmly believe in the priority of transferring the necessary skills and knowledge to the human resources.
