MOEI Gov: The Joint Committee For Security And Safety Launches A Campaign To Raise Safety Awareness At Gas Stations

The Joint Committee for Security and Safety, composed of representatives from the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, the General Command of Civil Defence at the Ministry of Interior, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), Emirates General Petroleum Corporation (Emarat), and Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC), has launched its national awareness campaign under the slogan ‘Your Safety Our Priority.’ The national campaign, now in its third year, runs until September 2022. It aims to raise awareness of safety and security and the correct behaviour at service stations, especially while putting fuel in vehicles, to protect the safety of customers and service providers.

In line with the UAE’s vision for the next fifty years, the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure is collaborating with strategic partners to consolidate the UAE’s position as one of the safest countries in the world. The aim is to ensure the quality of life and safety for all community members, promoting sustainable development with a focus on humans as one of its key elements.

The campaign embodies the UAE’s strategy and the leadership’s vision to enhance security and safety in society and save human lives – the main pillar of sustainable development. It will introduce measures to reduce risks and damages resulting from incorrect practices in fuel stations. These measures include adhering to a speed limit of 30 km/h to access the station, turning off the engine, not smoking, and not moving the vehicle before ensuring that the refueling process is complete.

HE Eng. Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure for Energy and Petroleum Affairs and Chairman of The Joint Committee for Security and Safety, said, “This campaign is very important as it furthers coordination between federal and local entities to raise awareness of safety and prevention measures to avoid accidents in fuel stations. Moreover, it saves human lives, an important strategic goal for the UAE to achieve sustainable development in the coming fifty years.”

“‘ Your Safety Our Priority’ promotes teamwork, consolidating the UAE’s position as one of the best and safest countries in the world. The campaign invites everyone to comply with safety instructions and guidelines at gas stations. This year it has expanded across the country, uniting national efforts and initiatives to enhance security and safety in society and support the UAE’s leading position in global competitiveness indices,” he added.

Al Olama commended the first edition of the campaign and how it enhanced awareness and expressed his hope that the 2022 edition would be as successful and continue to support the UAE’s goals of ensuring human safety.
