Petróleos Mexicanos (PEMEX) reports that, because of the extreme rainfall caused by cold front number 9 in the south-east of the country, staff and patients were evacuated from the Regional Hospital located in the Centro neighborhood of the state’s capital.

With the support of the Mexican Secretariat of the Navy – Armed Forces, as well as State and Civil Protection authorities, patients hospitalized at the Regional Hospital have been evacuated to the following healthcare facilities: PEMEX Hospitals in Comalcalco, Paraíso and Ciudad PEMEX; as well as to the Social Security Institute of the State of Tabasco (Instituto de Seguridad Social del Estado de Tabasco, ISSET) facilities, such as the Doctor Maximiliano Dorantes, Doctor Rodolfo Nieto Padrón, and Doctor Juan Graham Casasús hospitals.

44 patients were hospitalized at the time, and 87% (38) of these were evacuated, while 6 remain at the Regional Hospital because their condition is too delicate to ensure safe transport to another facility.

Emergency medical attention and general medical attention will be temporarily moved to the PEMEX First-Level Clinic in Villahermosa, located in Avenue Gregorio Méndez Magaña, as well as to PEMEX Hospitals in Comalcalco and in Paraíso.

The reason for the evacuation is the torrential rain that has flooded streets close to the PEMEX Regional Hospital in Villahermosa, which also caused water to pour into the Outpatient, Laboratory, and Hemodialysis areas of the hospital.

Regular service at this hospital will be reestablished as soon as weather conditions allow, and the affected facilities are cleaned and disinfected.

Petróleos Mexicanos reiterates its commitment towards its patients, who are part of the company’s most valuable asset, the life and health of its workers and their families. Therefore, the company is prioritizing the detailed follow-up on their condition at the various hospitals they were evacuated to, in order to ensure their quick recovery.
