The Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas) stated on Thursday (07/07/2022) that the sustainable chemical industry is one of the economic development priority focuses in the National Capital City (IKN). The development is predicted to contribute up to 6.5 billion US dollars to the national GDP.
According to the the 2019 Korn Ferry report entitled ‘Reward in Asia Pacific Chemical Sector’, it is stated that the basic worker’s salary in the Indonesian chemical industry is 25 percent higher than in other industries. It is due by the significant mismatch between the supply of young, skilled people and the sector demands.
Indy Inasa Rizqita, the recipient of the BUMN APERTI Scholarship at Pertamina University (UPER) from Nganjuk Regency, expressed her hope to become a chemist. Thanks to the exemption of tuition fees up to 100 percent at UPER, students accepted into the Chemistry Study Program are one step closer to their goal.
Indy said that she had been interested in chemistry for a long time. “Science in the field of chemistry can be applied in various sectors such as pharmaceuticals, automotive, textiles, and even food and beverages. In addition, science in the chemical field can also provide solutions to various problems such as environmental pollution and climate change,” concluded Indy in an online interview after the BUMN APERTI Scholarship announcement on Tuesday (26/07/2022).
This outstanding student from SMA Negeri 2 Nganjuk has won several awards. Such as becoming the National Water-langga Chemistry Olympiad finalist and the Top 100 Quarter Finals of the ITS NOVEC Carnival. Indy is also active in the Youth Scientific Work (KIR) extracurricular and is listed as the Smart Indonesia Program Scholarship (PIP) recipient from the Ministry of Education and Culture for three full years.
Indy hopes to advance her hometown, especially in the chemical industry sector. “Last year, the government developed the Nganjuk Industrial Estate (KING), which is predicted to be the center of industrial activities in the Nganjuk district. I hope that when I graduate, I will be able to return to my hometown and contribute to the progress,” said the student, who always ranks in the top 10.
Besides Indy, four other students were also accepted at UPER through the SOE APERTI Scholarship. The four students are: Alghifari Rasyid Zola, accepted into the Computer Science Study Program, Naurah Aqela, accepted into the Chemistry Study Program, Aulia Putri Riadi, accepted into the Environmental Engineering Study Program, and Michael Unedo Sitinjak, in the Chemistry Study Program. They elimated more than nine thousand applicants for the APERTI Scholarship at Pertamina University.
Pertamina University offers several other scholarships for students who did not pass the APERTI scholarship. For example, the PATRIOT Scholarship is currently open as a commemoration of the 77th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia. The total value of scholarships provided by UPER reaches 23 billion Rupiah.
The scholarship program created by the Alliance of Higher Education affiliated with the SOE, opened in June 2022. The selection process was attended by more than 28 thousand students from all over Indonesia. A total of 47 best students are currently studying at eight member universities of APERTI BUMN.
The eight universities are: Pertamina University (UPER), Telkom University (TEL-U), Indonesia Semen International University (UISI), International Logistics and Business University (ULBI), PLN Institute of Technology (IT-PLN), Telkom Institute of Technology Surabaya (ITTS), Telkom Institute of Technology Purwokerto, and Telkom Institute of Technology Jakarta.
Currently, the campus created by PT Pertamina (Persero) is opening non-test registrations, such as the Selection of Report Cards and Selection of UTBK Scores for the 2022/2023 Academic Year.
