Pertamina: Pertamina Upstream Subholding Launches 2D Cubed Seismic Data Reprocessing Program Covering an Area of 270,000 KM2
Pertamina’s Upstream Subholding continues to maintain the continuity of energy supply through seismic activities. Seismic is the initial stage in the upstream oil and gas sector.
After the seismic activity, the data is then processed to obtain detailed information on the potential oil and gas below the earth’s surface according to the latest technological developments through the 2D Cubed method.
“We are grateful that we have arrived at the kickoff stage of 2D Cubed (Pseudo 3D) Seismic Reprocessing after going through a long stage. We believe that this Data Reprocessing will bring great opportunities to search for oil and gas reserves in Indonesia”, said Medi Kurniawan, Director of Exploration and New Inventions of PT Pertamina Hulu Energi as Subholding Upstream Pertamina (17/01).
Furthermore, Medi added that this is a continuation of PHE Jambi Merang’s Definite Work Commitment in an open area, which is also the 3rd largest in the Asia Pacific in the management of the 3D Pseudo Seismic Program with an area of 270,000 KM2, spread from South Makassar to North Java. – Bali – Lombok.
“This effort shows that Pertamina is committed to exploration using the best technology for Indonesia. Pertamina is also open to partnerships in using 2D Cubed data to carry out further exploration activities in Indonesia,” said Agung Prasetyo, VP New Venture at PT Pertamina Hulu Energi as Pertamina Upstream Subholding.
This work, continued Agung, will be carried out by TGS as an energy data management company in the oil and gas industry with the latest technology ready and able to provide data processing results.
“Indonesia is a key player in the global oil and gas industry. However, oil and gas production has decreased in recent times. Nevertheless, there is potential for discoveries that have not been managed optimally in Indonesia’s upstream oil and gas industry,” said Agung.
Meanwhile, Shinta Damayanti, Head of the Exploration Division of SKKMigas, said that we are proud that Pertamina has shown its seriousness in implementing the Definite Work Commitment in the Open Area. One of them is Data Reprocessing which is being carried out now, which is part of the government’s efforts to obtain the latest data to find Giant Discovery in the future.
According to Agus Cahyono Adi, the Head of the Center for Data and Information at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Indonesia, this is a significant step forward in exploring Indonesia’s oil and gas potential.
“This is a continuation of the government’s pioneering and breakthrough activities to provide opportunities for KKKS to be able to invest outside the Working Area and to be able to expand the use of funds outside the existing working area,” he said.
Furthermore, from this large data asset, we can explore more digital data that requires technology to be processed further. The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation No. 7 of 2019 regarding the Management and Utilization of Oil and Gas Data is now available, which allows all parties to access data from anywhere to find out the resources in Indonesia.
“It is hoped that the new technology for processing 2D Cubed Seismic data in the South Makassar – Java – Bali – Lombok area can attract investors and be able to find large oil and gas reserves. Thanks to PHE and SKKMigas, this project will run well and be completed on time so that it can be completed and boost the potential that exists,” he concluded.
