Pertamina: Pertamina’s Desa Energi Berdikari Based on Renewable Energy

Keliki Village, Ubud, Gianyar Regency, Bali, is one of the pilot projects for Pertamina’s Desa Energi Berdikari program based on new and renewable energy (NRE). Keliki Village is also the study destination for the G20 countries delegations who are the G20 Energy Transition Working Group (ETWG) members in early September 2022.

Keliki Village has installed eight solar PV points with a 28 kWp capacity to reach 1,200 households. Clean energy is used for various rural communities’ needs, such as operating a Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Waste Management Site (TPS3R), Eco-Village development, and Agriculture based on new and renewable energy.

The solar panels installed in Keliki Village were carried out by the GoGerilya team of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the Society of Renewable Energy (SRE), and Udayana University students. The solar PV installation in Keliki Village contributes to a reduction in carbon emissions of 37,750 kg C02 per year.

With renewable energy, rural communities can innovate to make organic compost from domestic waste for agriculture, build environmentally friendly villages from nature-based solutions, and process waste to increase economic value.

Solar PV has also encouraged villagers to innovate for irrigated rice fields using groundwater. There are seven Subak or Balinese irrigation systems using renewable energy, namely the Tain Kambing Subak, Sebali Village Uma Subak, Keliki Village Uma Subak, Jungut Subak, Umelikode Subak, Bangkiangsidem Subak, and Lauh Batu Subak.

Vice President CSR & SMEPP, Fajriyah Usman, said that the renewable energy-based Pertamina Desa Energi Berdikari in Keliki Village is the largest in Indonesia.

According to Fajriyah, the renewable energy development in Keliki Village is Pertamina’s commitment to implementing Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) while supporting the implementation of SDGs points 7 and 8. Namely, providing clean and affordable energy, as well as providing decent jobs, supporting the economy, and community independence.

“Pertamina Independent Village in Keliki is a pilot project for the renewable energy development and at the same time the company’s form of support for the G20 Indonesia Presidency, which focuses on the clean energy transition,” said Fajriyah.

Pertamina, added Fajriyah, has 11 Desa Energi Berdikari in Indonesia, which were developed by involving the younger generation that directly contribute to the energy transition in Indonesia. The 11 villages include Balkondes Wringinputih, Magelang (1.2 KWP), Balkondes Karangrejo, Magelang (1.2 KWP), Crab Tourism & Cultivation Village, Cilacap (6.6 KWP), Life Energi Karang-Karangan Solar Home System, Luwu (4.4 KWP), Energy Remote Areas of Cindako, Maros (6.6 KWP), Educational Tourism of Kampung Sekaja, Jambi (2.2 KWP), Desa Energi Berdikari Krueng Raya, Aceh Besar (4.4 KWP), Farmer Group Empowerment Wayame Village PLTS, Ambon (4.4 KWP), Walahar Eco Green, Karawang (2.2 KWP), Kamojang Eagle Conservation Center, Garut (6.6 KWP) and Keliki Village, Gianyar (28 KWP).

Fajriyah added Pertamina has 47 renewable energy programs packaged in the Desa Energi Berdikari. The programs include Solar Energy (29 Programs), Hybrid Energy (1 Program), Biogas and Biomethane (11 Programs), Microhydro Energy (4 Programs), and Biodiesel Energy (2 Programs).

All these programs contribute to carbon emission reductions equivalent to 530,000 tons of CO2 per year and provide a multiplier effect of IDR 1.8 billion per year for 2,750 households.

“Pertamina opens access to clean and affordable energy through the Desa Energi Berdikari Program. Pertamina and the community optimize clean energy utilization to drive rural communities’ economy,” said Fajriyah.
