PetroChina Jilin Petrochemical begins construction of ethylene plant

On November 12, PetroChina Jilin Petrochemical commenced the construction of a 1.2 Mtpa ethylene plant, as part of its transformation and upgrading project.

The transformation and upgrading project of PetroChina Jilin Petrochemical is key to promoting the new industrialization and high-end, intelligent and green development of manufacturing industry. As PetroChina’s first chemical project fully powered by green electricity, it is an important driver for the high-quality development of PetroChina’s refining and chemicals business, and is of great significance in terms of boosting the development of Jilin Province, ensuring the supply security of the industrial chain, and promoting the revitalization of the old industrial base in Northeast China.

The project was fully launched on February 8 this year. The ethylene plant under construction can produce 1.2 million tons (MMt) of polymer-grade ethylene and 587,000 tons of polymer-grade propylene annually, as well as by-products such as hydrogen, C4-hydrocarbons (C4s), pyrolysis gasoline (pygas), pyrolysis gas oil (PGO) and pyrolysis fuel oil (PFO). After the project is put into operation, the total production capacity of ethylene will reach 1.9 million tons per year (Mtpa).
