On November 5, the first and largest single photovoltaic (PV) power station of PetroChina Tarim Oilfield was completed and became operational. The 3.6-MW PV power station is a surface engineering project for the development and adjustment of Hetianhe Gas Field. Covering an area of 85 mu (~14 acres), the station has 6,708 units of 540W PV panels, all of which are installed on fixed brackets. After the project is put into operation, it is expected to generate 15 MWh of electricity per day and provide 5,350 MWh of clean electricity annually.
Since the beginning of this year, Tarim Oilfield has been promoting the replacement of fossil fuels with clean energy in oil and gas field production in a coordinated manner, making full use of the extensive sunlight in the Gobi desert. While accelerating increases in oil and gas reserves and production, equal importance is being attached to oil and gas exploration and development and environmental protection, in an effort to achieve the “30·60” decarbonization goals through utilizing the wind and solar energy of the Gobi desert.
