PETRONAS today contributed RM708,460 for the implementation of three new collaborative community well-being and environment programmes in Sabah.

PETRONAS Head of Government and Regulator Advisory Anuar Ismail handed over mock cheques for the contribution to Sabah State Secretary Datuk Seri Panglima Safar Untong witnessed by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor at Menara Kinabalu here. Anuar was accompanied by Head of PETRONAS Sabah and Labuan Siti Ayu Abdul Wahab.

Of the total amount, RM500,000 is allocated for the construction of a lookout tower and jetty at Kampung Pantai Emas, Kota Belud – an initiative by the Kota Belud District Office that aims to uplift tourism and fisheries activities in the area.

Another RM108,460 is for the Community Emergency Response Team programme, a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative by PETRONAS in collaboration with the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia which seeks to empower communities to be better prepared for emergencies while also promoting the spirit of volunteerism among them. About 200 grassroots leaders and community members from Tuaran, Papar, Beaufort and Sipitang will be involved in this programme starting end of this month.

The remaining RM100,000 will go towards the Sabah International Climate Change Conference 2021 that will be held next month, organised by the Environment Protection Department Sabah, Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment.

The three programmes are among the CSR initiatives agreed for implementation by the PETRONAS-Sabah Joint Working Committee (JWC), a collaborative platform between PETRONAS and the state government.
