A subsidiary of Pertamina Upstream Subholding, PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR), with the Pertamina Foundation launched the “Achievement Scholarship” program today in the form of International Masters Scholarships and Pertamina University Undergraduate Scholarships for Boys and Girls from Riau.
The event was attended by the President Director of Pertamina (Persero), Nicke Widyawati; President Director of Pertamina Hulu Energi, Wiko Migantoro; President Director of PHR, Jaffee A Suardin; President Director of Pertamina Foundation, Agus Mashud S. Asngari; Head of SKK Migas Sumbagut, Rikky Rahmat Firdaus; Governor of Riau represented by Assistant 2 of the Riau Regional Secretariat, M Job Kurniawan SAP, Msi; and Riau Province academics at the Rumbai Country Club Building, Thursday (5/1/2023).
A total of 12 people will get the opportunity to achieve higher education, including two people for International Masters scholarships in the United States, and ten people will win Undergraduate scholarships at Pertamina University.
The recipients will receive a full educational scholarship, as PHR’s commitment to increasing HR capacity in Riau Province. It is also the first time Pertamina has provided a full scholarship at the international Master’s level for the community, especially in Riau Province. This program follows Pertamina’s vision to Go Global.
The President Director of Pertamina (Persero), Nicke Widyawati, said, “Educating the nation’s children is an important foundation for Indonesia’s progress. Pertamina, as a State Owned Enterprise, has a big role to play in development by providing quality education for the best students in Indonesia. I hope that the sons and daughters of Riau will make the most of this precious opportunity.”
“Pertamina Foundation will be the implementing partner for the PHR Achievement Scholarship. With the principles of working, sharing, and moving together, this foundation will become a bridge for improving the education and progress of Indonesian sons and daughters. The activities starts from providing information, the recruitment and selection process, departure to the targeted universities, and student assistance will be part of this Achievement Scholarship program.”
The President Director of PHR, Jaffee Arizon Suardin, said that this achievement scholarship program was PHR’s commitment to increase Riau’s human resources capacity. The scholarship was specifically dedicated to sons and daughters from Riau.
“First, we will provide a full scholarship opportunity for ten outstanding Riau students to continue their undergraduate studies at Pertamina University. We will also provide opportunities for two Riau students who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Engineering to get a full Masters scholarship to the United States,” he said.
Moreover, the university options provided by PHR are exceptional. Riau’s best sons and daughters will have the opportunity to choose universities known to have produced outstanding engineers in the petrotech field.
SKK Migas appreciates and welcomes the launch of this scholarship. Head of the North Sumatera Representative Office, Rikky Rahmat Firdaus, said, “As an institution for monitoring and controlling upstream oil and gas industry activities, social responsibility programs are a necessity as production activities progress. Programs in the education sector, especially those that support tertiary education, will be needed by the local community, especially in Riau Province, where WK Rokan operates. The launch of this program proves the upstream oil and gas dedication, not only as the country’s oil producer but also as a dedication to developing human resources in Indonesia.”
PHR Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL)
PHR’s Social and Environmental Responsibility Program (TJSL) in the education field supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement, which includes quality education, decent work and economic growth, and partnerships to achieve goals.
In addition to opening up scholarship opportunity, PHR has implemented an HR capacity-building program in the education pillar. It includes; for the D4/S1 level, PHR has provided Sakai Tribe & Career Incubation Scholarships in the form of undergraduate scholarships and strengthening soft skills that are felt by more than 75 Sakai students.
Moreover, the Practical Work Program (KP) / Final Assignment (TA) and Internship Program for Students is organized through the coordination of the Human Capital (HC) Team. There are 73 undergraduates from Riau for the Work Internship Program and 60 TA students for the Student Internship Program in 2022. In 2023, PHR is opening up apprenticeship opportunities again for 90 sons and daughters of Riau.
There are also partnerships with universities, namely MoUs with eight universities in Riau, to increase lecturers’ and students’ capacity, increase accreditation, and strengthen vocations.
Furthermore, for high school level, PHR implemented the Vocational Ecosystem Strengthening Program in Riau by targeting more than 120 work & vocational youth generations. And the Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) competence, namely, increasing 143 selected high school Teachers and Principals’ competence from 7 Regencies/cities in the STEM field.
