77

Global Tiger Day is celebrated annually on July 29 and was established in 2010 to draw attention to the problems of preserving the population of this predatory animal.

Taking care of the conservation of wildlife and maintaining the sustainable state of ecosystems, Rosneft implements a number of programmes for the study and conservation of wild animals in the regions of its presence. In particular, the Company supports an initiative called the Amur Tiger Center.

As part of this initiative, Rosneft finances the purchase of necessary machinery and equipment for state wildlife officers who monitor specially protected natural areas in Primorsky and Khabarovsk Krais. Rosneft also supports centres for the rehabilitation and reintroduction of the Amur tiger, feeding and veterinary support of animals, and provides special equipment for training tigers released into the wild to hunt independently and to co-exist with humans without conflict.

Currently the Company is funding the construction of enclosures for Amur tiger in Silinsky Park in the city of Komsomolsk-on-Amur. It’s going to be placed next to the enclosures for the Amur leopard.

One of Rosneft’s strategy key priorities in all business areas is ecology and environment. The Company has been a member of the UN Global Compact for more than 10 years and in 2018 reaffirmed its commitment to 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. Besides the Amur tiger, Rosneft also supports research on rare animal species such as walruses, polar bears, reindeer, Sakhalin taimens, Black Sea bottlenose dolphins, leopards and others.
