Rosneft Develops Production of Arctic and Winter Grades of Diesel Fuel

37

Scientists from Rosneft Oil Company have developed unique catalysts for the production of diesel fuel of the Arctic and winter grades. The catalysts are based on noble metals, with the key feature being the ability to process high-sulphur feedstock to produce fuels with an ultra-low sulphur content. The invention belongs to scientists of the Rosneft United Research and Development Centre.

The first pilot batches of the innovative catalysts have been produced at the Novokuibyshevsk Catalyst Plant (a subsidiary of Rosneft). The introduction of the latest solutions into the production process will facilitate hydrotreatment and isodewaxing in one unit for the production of green Arctic and winter grades of diesel fuels.

One of the main tasks of the innovative refining development is to eliminate dependence on imported catalysts, for 95% of all oil refining requires the use of catalysts. Rosneft prioritises the development of catalyst production and is moving to domestic, mainly in-house, catalysts for all major processes. The in-house production of catalysts is carried out at Rosneft’s plants in Angarsk, Novokuibyshevsk and at RN-Kat (Sterlitamak).
