The Ministry of Energy of Russia supports the use of a mechanism to compensate for shortfalls in income of gas distribution organizations when supplying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to the population at regulated prices while maintaining market pricing in the wholesale segment, Anton Rubtsov, Director of the Oil and Gas Complex Department, said at a meeting of the Federation Council Committee of the Russian Federation on Economic Policy on the topic “On topical issues of gasification of the Republic of Buryatia”.

“Now the prices for LPG in the wholesale sector have fallen by 48% compared to the peak values of last year, which allows gas distribution organizations to have a certain income. But for 2021, I am ready to agree that there were shortfalls in income that need to be compensated. Based on this, the Ministry of Energy of Russia, within its competence, supports the use of a mechanism for compensating for shortfalls in income of gas distribution organizations in terms of LPG supplies to the population of Buryatia at regulated prices,” he said.

Anton Rubtsov noted that 258 settlements and 11.5 thousand apartments and households are currently gasified with liquefied hydrocarbon gas on the territory of the Republic. According to him, in 2021, more than 7.4 thousand tons of LPG were shipped to the Republic of Buryatia, including 4 thousand tons of LPG for the domestic needs of citizens.

The Director of the Department also said that the Ministry is systematically working to find economically viable options for gasification of the region with both network pipeline gas and autonomous gasification using LPG and LNG. In particular, this is possible due to the use of vast gas reserves in Eastern Siberia.
