When carrying out gasification in the regions of Siberia and the Far East, it is necessary to take into account not only environmental benefits, but also the economic aspect, Pavel Sorokin said at a meeting of the Council on Gasification of the Subjects of the Russian Federation under the Federation Council.

The Ministry of Energy of Russia is holding a series of meetings with the leadership of the regions and resource-supplying organizations on gasification of regions remote from the main systems. So, according to Pavel Sorokin, the pipeline of natural gas to the Republic of Tyva, as well as to the Jewish Autonomous Region, is being considered, and other regions are also being studied.

“We need a new affordable source of energy, and such that the cost of energy and heat for the consumer does not increase significantly. We have also prepared a vision for a comprehensive gasification program that includes Irkutsk, Transbaikalia, Buryatia, and the Krasnoyarsk Territory, and we are working with Gazprom accordingly. These issues should be addressed comprehensively,” he stressed.

Pavel Sorokin told the senators that several options for laying gas pipelines to the Republic of Tyva and the Jewish Autonomous Region are currently being considered. Thus, the Republic of Tyva can receive gas through the construction of a new gas pipeline “Power of Siberia – 2”, while the Jewish Autonomous Region can be gasified thanks to the construction of a jumper between the existing “Power of Siberia” and the pipeline system “Sakhalin – Khabarovsk – Vladivostok”.
