With the assistance of the Russian Ministry of Energy, Rosstandart has formed a technical committee “Capture, transportation and storage of carbon dioxide”, which will develop a national system for standardizing technologies for capturing, transporting, storing and converting carbon dioxide – CO2.

Thanks to the work of the technical committee, a fund of documents of the national standardization system will be formed, and the necessary proposals will be developed on an ongoing basis to change the legislative framework for launching the operation of carbon dioxide capture, transportation, storage and processing facilities. Another important task of the new technical committee will also be to represent Russia’s interests in the technical committee of the International Organization for Standardization, within which 12 different standards have already been developed. The Committee will work on the basis of the Institute of Petrochemical Synthesis. A.V.Topchiev of the Russian Academy of Sciences, which is a scientific center in this field.

The technical committee included 23 organizations whose work in the near future will be related to the implementation of projects in the field of decarbonization, including the Federal State Budgetary Institution Russian Energy Agency of the Ministry of Energy of Russia, as well as PJSC Inter RAO, PJSC NOVATEK, PJSC SIBUR Holding, PJSC Gazprom Neft, PJSC Tatneft, PJSC Surgutneftegaz and others.

“CO2 capture is becoming an integral part of progress in any industry. Russia has a huge resource base for carbon dioxide storage. At the same time, we are ready to work with other countries on systems for monitoring emissions, transportation and storage,” said Pavel Sorokin.
