Sasol’s Pinehaven Retail Convenience Centre’s (RCC) franchisee, supported by Sasol and several of the RCC’s vendors, has launched a weeklong Friendly Neighbour initiative to honour and thank healthcare workers at Yusuf Dadoo and Netcare Pinehaven hospitals for leading the fight against COVID-19.

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic healthcare practitioners have been at the forefront working tirelessly to ensure that people in South Africa receive medical care and risking their own lives to nurture and save the lives of others.

As a business located in the heart of Pinehaven which is supported by the community, and wanting to reward and recognise the selflessness of healthcare workers, Peter Raschel, franchisee owner of Pinehaven Sasol partnered with Sasol in a Friendly Neighbour Campaign to say thank you to the heroes of the two hospitals for their bravery and support of their community during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Says Peter Raschel, franchisee owner of Sasol Pinehaven “We have made available 1000 RCC vouchers exclusively for health care workers associated with the two hospitals which will entitle them to a hot beverage and a snack”. He adds that Sasol Pinehaven suppliers strengthened the campaign by donating additional items that will be provided to healthcare workers when they redeem their vouchers. These include RCL Foods who donated 12 cases of mini pies, Lavazza that donated one case of coffee capsules, Blue Ribbon Bread has provided 1000 units of Blue Ribbon squares, Red Bull has donated 1000 250ml cans of Red Bull energy drinks, and McNabs has donated two hampers which include their energy boosters and other products. Nescafe has installed a coffee machine that will dispense hot beverages for the duration of the initiative.

Speaking at the event, Sasol’s Head of Retail, Donny Stuart said that Sasol’s Friendly Neighbour initiative is a social impact programme designed to support fenceline communities surrounding Sasol’s retail sites where Sasol matches acceptable franchisee proposal or co-creates concept rand-for-rand up to an amount of R10,000 per initiative. Says Donny: “Sasol and its Retail Convenience Centres is customer centric and integral to the communities that it serves, not only in products and services, but also in delivering social impact initiatives that contribute to the upliftment of the communities that it serves”.

The Sasol Pinehaven Healthcare Worker initiative will run from Thursday, 2 September until Wednesday 8 September. The vouchers are redeemable anytime of the day or night during this period to accommodate shift working healthcare workers.
