10

The Siemens Smart Infrastructure plant in Zug, Switzerland, has been named Factory of the Year 2022 in the category Excellence in Supply Chain Resilience. The award recognizes the plant’s supply chain resilience and preventive risk management, which were found to be outstanding measured against other plants in Europe. Organized by international management consultancy Kearney, the Factory of the Year industry competition is considered one of the most prestigious in Europe.

“The Siemens plant in Zug is an excellent example of continuously striving for improvement and pursuing clear objectives with a strong focus on digitalization,” said Daniel Stengel, Director at Kearney.
The factory in Zug has continued to ensure product deliveries to customers, even under current challenging market conditions. This is thanks to preventive measures such as a “risk radar” for early identification of global risks in the supply chain, a high level of data transparency across the entire value chain, and seamless collaboration with purchasing, logistics, development, and sales departments.
Resource efficiency and the ongoing reduction of carbon emissions are increasingly prioritized in manufacturing. Both underline the plant’s clear focus on sustainability. Another quality hallmark of the plant is cost management built on lean manufacturing, automation and digitalization. Finally, Siemens’ culture of innovation, the continuous optimization of processes and operations, and the ongoing training of employees all contribute to the high quality and adaptability of production operations at the Zug factory.
“I’m proud of our team at the Zug plant. Their hard work and dedication to continuous improvement, also during challenging times, has also been recognized externally with this well-deserved award,” said Henning Sandfort, CEO of Building Products at Siemens Smart Infrastructure, and the executive responsible for the plant. “It honors the dedicated work, expertise, and tireless motivation of the entire team over many years.”
The Siemens plant in Zug employs around 350 people who work in shifts to manufacture advanced products for building technology, primarily fire detectors as well as heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment for building automation. The products, which serve the global market, are essential components for building management and fire protection solutions in smart buildings.
The award ceremony will take place in March 2023 at the Factory of the Year industry convention in Munich.
