Tata Power’s Powerlinks Transmission Limited recently inaugurated 2 community toilet blocks and 2 water filtration units in Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki district as a part of its ‘Swacch Gaon Swacch Jal’ initiative. Under this initiative, the company successfully curbed open defecation and provided clean and safe drinking water to 250 families in Saraiya and Mainahar villages of the region.

One of the most prevalent challenges faced by these villagers, especially young girls and women was open defecation, resulting in gynecological problems making it both unhygienic and uncomfortable for them. By constructing community toilet blocks, Tata Power not only laid a huge emphasis on the usage of toilets but also encouraged a behavioral change amongst the female population by hosting various awareness programs in schools, communities as well as individual households.

Through this initiative, the company has successfully managed to increase and sustain the attendance of girls in school by serving them with a safe and hygienic defecation area as well as sensitised them about the importance of using & maintaining cleanliness of toilet blocks to avoid diseases.

Besides this, Tata Power has also installed water filtration units with a capacity of 100 litres per day providing access to clean and safe drinking water to the families residing in these villages thereby, ensuring less probability of illness amongst them.

“As a responsible organization, we have always focused on promoting health, hygiene and sanitation practices amongst our communities through various initiatives. Through ‘Swacch Gaon, Swacch Jal’, we aim to ensure quality of life and healthy environment for these villagers, especially female population. We would like to thank our team for their endless efforts in helping us sensitise these villagers and look forward to undertake similar initiatives in the future,” said Ms Kiran Gupta, CEO & ED, Powerlinks Transmission Ltd.

Inaugurated by Ms. Kiran Gupta, CEO & ED, Powerlinks Transmission Ltd., the ceremony was graced by Mr C P Srivastava, Head O&M and Ms Diksha Singh, Head HR Head-Business HR PTL, TPTCL & CSR PTL followed by music & dance performances from school students.
