UNEP: Ellie Goulding dives into Red Sea in a call to protect world’s coral reefs

12

Singer and songwriter Ellie Goulding dived into the Red Sea during the United Nations Climate Conference (COP27) to witness first-hand the resilience of the coral reefs in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.

As a UN Environment Programme’s (UNEP) Global Goodwill Ambassador, Goulding has urged world leaders and policymakers to take action to save the world’s coral reefs, which support at least 25 per cent of marine species and hundreds of millions of people.

“Humanity has never been on the verge of losing an entire ecosystem before,” says Goulding. “But we have also never had the opportunity to save one either.”

“We just need to do what we’ve agreed to do: honour the commitment to limit global warming to well under 2°C and prioritize support for the local action to save the coral reefs, especially reefs like this,” she added.
