Good news has come from Pertamina’s Upstream Subholding. Previously in Kalimantan Regional through Pertamina Hulu Mahakam managed to discover natural gas in the Manpatu-1X exploration well off the coast of Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, now Sumatera Region through Pertamina EP managed to discover oil in Jambi. Precisely at Sungai Gelam Timur-001 (SGET-001) Exploration Well which is located around Jambi Field, Sungai Gelam District, Muaro Jambi Regency.
The SGET-001 well is located approximately 8 km from the existing SP GS-02 production facility and 14 km from the SP Ketaling production facility.
Through the first drill stem test (DST#1) which was carried out on the sandstone reservoir of the Air Benakat Formation at intervals of 1,622-1,624 meters (mMD), oil resources with a flow rate of 434 barrels per day (md) and 0.18 million standard cubic feet per day (Million Standard Cubic Feet per Day/MMSCFD) gas were found.
Furthermore, a second DST (DST#2) is planned to be conducted at an interval of 1,491-1,495 meters (mMD) in the Air Benakat Formation. “All of these efforts are a form of our commitment to increase oil and gas reserves and production in Sumatera and support the achievement of national oil and gas production targets,” said Jaffee Arizon Suardin, President Director of PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan as Pertamina’s Upstream Sumatera Region Subholding.
“In addition to the achievement of discovering these resources, operationally it is also quite successful. The SGET-001 well was completed ahead of schedule with below-target cost realization. Hopefully, this achievement can be maintained until the rig release,” continued Jaffee.
The drilling of the SGET-001 well was carried out with the HSSE aspect and strict implementation of the COVID-19 protocol. “Hopefully this success will encourage the officers (as Pertamina workers are called) in the Sumatera Region to keep trying to discover new oil and gas reserves,” concluded Jaffee.
Separately, the head of SKK Migas Sumbagsel Representative, Anggono Mahendawan, expressed his high appreciation to all parties who took part in efforts to find oil and gas reserves in all upstream oil and gas working areas, especially in the Southern Sumatera region. “This is of course also a step and a form of effort to realize the common goals,” said Anggono.
He also added that this achievement can be a motivation that will encourage the enthusiasm of all parties, both the Government and the local community, to support the upstream oil and gas industry in seeking more oil and gas reserves aggressively in the future. “We must be optimistic that the common goal will be realized, this discovery must be able to lift our spirits together because the progress of the upstream oil and gas industry is also the progress of all of us,” concluded Anggono.
