European Commission: Commissioner Simson participates in the International Energy Agency’s 7th Annual Global Conference on Energy Efficiency
Tomorrow and on Thursday Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, will participate in the 7th Annual Global Conference on Energy Efficiency, organised by the International Energy Agency (IEA) in Sønderborg, Denmark. Energy savings are a key pillar of the REPowerEU plan to get rid of Russian fossil fuels and the EU has committed to make energy efficiency a global priority in its recently adopted external energy engagement strategy. This will be a high-level event to discuss and share knowledge on how to accelerate progress on energy efficiency.
On Wednesday, the Commissioner will give remarks at the opening plenary, which this year is dedicated to the value of early action on energy efficiency, and participate in the ministerial working lunch and a panel discussion closing the plenary session. On Thursday, she will attend the site visit and ministerial meeting together with IEA’s Executive Director, Fatih Birol; COP26 President, Alok Sharma; the Danish Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities, Dan Jørgensen, and the Ministers from Indonesia and Egypt currently holding the G20 and COP27 Presidencies, respectively: Minister for Energy and Mineral Resources, Arifin Tasrif, and Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mohamed Shaker El-Markabi.
