Meti: Japan-U.S. Economic Policy Consultative Committee (Economic “2+2”) Vice-Ministerial Meeting Held

On May 6, 2022, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), the Department of State (DOS) and the Department of Commerce (DOC) held a Vice-Ministerial meeting of the Japan-U.S. Economic Policy Consultative Committee (Economic “2+2”) in Washington DC.

Mr. HIROSE Naoshi, Vice-Minister for International Affairs at Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and Mr. SUZUKI Hiroshi, Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, represented the Japanese side. Mr. Jose W. Fernandez, Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy and the Environment, and Ms. Marisa Lago, Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade, represented the U.S. side.

In the meeting, both sides exchanged views on strategic environments around the two countries and shared a recognition on the role that the Economic “2+2” should play. Both sides also exchanged views on ensuring economic security, including supply chain resilience, and enhancing the rules-based economic order in the international community, including in the Indo-Pacific region.

Both sides confirmed that they will further coordinate and hold a Ministerial meeting of the Economic “2+2” in the near future.
