Pertamina: Go Collaborative, Pertamina NRE and PHR Support Energy Transition by Installing PLTS in Rokan
Pertamina Power Indonesia as Power & New Renewable Energy subholding (Pertamina NRE) and Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) signed a memorandum of understanding for the provision of solar power plants (PLTS) in the Rokan work area (15/11).
The signing was carried out by the President Director of PHR Jaffee Arizon Suardin and symbolically by the Director of Strategic Planning and Business Development Fadli Rahman, accompanied by the Director of Projects and Operations Norman Ginting representing the President Director of Pertamina Power Indonesia. Also present to witness was Mulyono as Director of Logistics and Infrastructure of Pertamina.
“The transition to renewable energy has become one of the main topics and has received great attention. We, as an aggressive holding, facilitate collaboration between subholdings and subsidiaries to boost the implementation of the energy transition,” said Mulyono.
The collaboration between the two entities within the Pertamina Group is part of Pertamina’s commitment to make energy transitions inside Pertamina. This memorandum of understanding includes strategic cooperation to conduct feasibility studies, development, and potential implementation of PLTS projects, especially qround-mounted PLTS.
“Pertamina NRE is committed to fulfilling the aspirations of the energy transition through the development of renewable energy, especially inside Pertamina. We are expressing our gratitude and asking for support from all parties,” said Fadli in his speech.
PLTS is planned to be built to support electrical energy needs in core processes, offices, housing, and other supporting facilities. Strategic cooperation is planned in three stages, namely short term, medium term, and long term. In the short term, the potential installed capacity reaches 13 MWp, in the medium term it has the potential up to 40 MWp, and in the long term, the potential reaches 150 MWp. For the short term, the commercial operation date (COD) is targeted for April 2022.
With the completion of the management transfer process, Pertamina’s Rokan working area through Pertamina Hulu Rokan will officially become the administrator on August 9, 2021. Oil production in Rokan’s working area is the largest in Indonesia. To support national energy security, Pertamina is committed to maintain Rokan oil production.
“PHR has received a great trust, we are challenged with high targets, at the same time we are proud that Rokan is trusted as the working area for implementing a number of improvement and innovation programs, including EOR and digitalization,” said Jaffee. “This energy transition collaboration adds to the list of programs,” added the man who is familiarly called Buyung.
On the other hand, Pertamina is also fully committed to carrying out responsible business activities and operations through the implementation of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) aspects. The conversion of electrical energy sources use from fossil-based to PLTS is a form of effort to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The potential increase in demand for renewable energy, combined with industrial electrification and increased participation of oil and gas companies in the electricity value chain, is accelerating industry convergence. These trends can drive collaborations that give rise to new business models and help advance the energy transition.
